Overview

The Florida Department of Corrections is seeking a Maintenance Plumber at Wakulla Correctional Institution in the Maintenance Department. This is an open competitive Career Service position. The mission of Facilities Management and Building Construction is to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors through the management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities. This position is not a telework role and requires reporting to the FDC office in the area it serves.

Job Duties
  • Responsible for the installation and repair of plumbing and associated systems, LP gas supply, waste collection, and potable water necessary to operate a major institution.
  • Provide on-the-job training to inmates supervised in plumbing and associated systems.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs for all plumbing systems, including LP gas supply, waste collection, and potable water.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs plumbing fixtures such as valves, faucets, traps, sinks, sewer lines, vents, and sanitary fixtures.
  • Conducts tests, maintains logs, and keeps records for equipment per Department guidelines.
  • Repairs, replaces, and checks high and low pressure steam boilers, safety devices, and controls; cleans boilers, tanks, and water heaters.
  • Reads blueprints, plans and organizes work, prepares reports, supervises inmates, participates in departmental training, and performs other related duties as required.

Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least one (1) year of experience in the plumbing trade OR four or more years of experience in the plumbing trade (college or vocational/technical training can substitute for the required experience).

Background Screening Requirement
