Job summary

Tessera seeks a dedicated Plumber/Pipefitter to support facilities at USAFA. You will maintain and repair complex plumbing systems serving critical infrastructure, including steam, water, compressed air, and fire suppression, ensuring reliable operation across the installation.

The role requires 3+ years in plumbing with 2+ years pipefitting, valid licenses, and NFPA code knowledge. This is a full-time daytime position with a comprehensive benefits package and competitive compensation.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of plumbing experience; Journeyman/Master preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of pipefitting experience.
  • Certified in backflow prevention to ensure system safety and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes 13, 70, 72, and 101 relevant to fire protection and safety standards.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair, inspect, and modify plumbing systems for water, sewer, steam, compressed air, and gas.
  • Clear blockages in interior drain lines and vents.
  • Service fixtures and equipment including sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters, storage tanks.
  • Read and interpret building plans and technical drawings; apply codes and environmental standards.

Location: Colorado Springs, CO (United States Air Force Academy)


Type: Non-Exempt


Work Schedule: Full Time, Day Shift. On-call work may also be required based on operational needs.


Compensation: $35.47 - $35.47 /hourly

Tessera is seeking a dedicated, skilled, and safety-conscious Plumber/Pipefitter to join our mission-driven team supporting facilities at USAFA. This role plays a vital part in maintaining and repairing complex plumbing and piping systems that serve critical infrastructure across the installation. From steam and water systems to compressed air and fire suppression, you'll be hands-on with essential operations that keep the Academy running smoothly. Typical Duties Include But Are Not Limited To


  • Install, maintain, repair, inspect, and modify plumbing systems for water, sewer, steam, POL, compressed air, vacuum, inert and natural gas, and swimming pools

  • Clear blockages in interior drain lines, floor drains, fan coil units, vents, and storm drainage systems

  • Install and service plumbing fixtures and equipment including sinks, commodes, urinals, showers, bathtubs, dishwashers, water heaters, and storage tanks

  • Connect and maintain systems for water, air, sewage, storm drainage, and gas, including grease traps, and hydraulic lifts

  • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipe using hand tools, torches, and pipe machines

  • Fabricate pipe supports and holding fixtures as needed

  • Perform standard pressure and leak tests to verify system integrity and compliance

  • Be willing to work on and obtain certification for fire suppression systems and ensure adherence to NFPA codes and backflow prevention standards

  • Operate, clean, and maintain tools and specialized equipment safely

  • Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance and maintain accurate service records

  • Read and interpret building plans, technical drawings, work maps, and specification

  • Apply plumbing codes, manufacturer requirements, and environmental protection standards during all installations and repairs

  • Work in confined spaces and under adverse weather conditions on uneven terrain

  • Maintain professionalism in appearance, conduct, and communication across all tasks

  • All other duties as assigned


Qualifications


  • Minimum 3 years of plumbing experience; Journeyman/Master preferred

  • Minimum 2 years of pipefitting experience

  • Certified in backflow prevention to ensure system safety and compliance

  • Valid plumbing certifications one or more: American Society of Sanitary Engineering (ASSE), American Backflow Prevention Association (ABPA), or Association of Boards of Certification (ABC)

  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes 13, 70, 72, and 101 relevant to fire protection and safety standards

  • Fire suppression system experience preferred

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
