Job summary

Tessera is recruiting a dedicated Plumber/Pipefitter to support facilities at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. You will maintain and repair complex plumbing systems including steam, water, compressed air, and fire suppression across the installation.

Requirements include 3+ years plumbing, 2+ years pipefitting, and backflow prevention certification; NFPA codes knowledge is essential. This is a full-time role with comprehensive benefits and security clearances as needed.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of plumbing experience; Journeyman or Master preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of pipefitting experience.
  • Certified in backflow prevention.
  • Valid plumbing certifications: ASSE, ABPA, or ABC.
  • Working knowledge of NFPA codes 13, 70, 72, and 101 relevant to fire protection.
  • Fire suppression system experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair, inspect, and modify plumbing systems for water, sewer, steam, POL, compressed air, vacuum, inert, and natural gas, and pools.
  • Clear blockages in interior drains, floor drains, and vents.
  • Install and service plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, showers, water heaters.
  • Connect and maintain systems for water, air, sewage, and gas; grease traps.
  • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipe using hand tools and machines.
  • Read and interpret building plans and specifications.
  • Maintain safety and NFPA compliance in all tasks.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance and maintain service records.

Location: Colorado Springs, CO (United States Air Force Academy)

Type: Non-Exempt

Work Schedule: Full Time, Day Shift. On-call work may also be required based on operational needs.

Compensation: $35.47 per hour

Deadline: August 7, 2026

Position Overview

Tessera is seeking a dedicated, skilled, and safety‑conscious Plumber/Pipefitter to support facilities at the United States Air Force Academy (USAFA). This role maintains and repairs complex plumbing and piping systems that serve critical infrastructure across the installation, including steam, water, compressed air, and fire suppression systems.

Typical Duties
  • Install, maintain, repair, inspect, and modify plumbing systems for water, sewer, steam, POL, compressed air, vacuum, inert, and natural gas, and swimming pools
  • Clear blockages in interior drain lines, floor drains, fan coil units, vents, and storm drainage systems
  • Install and service plumbing fixtures and equipment including sinks, commodes, urinals, showers, bathtubs, dishwashers, water heaters, and storage tanks
  • Connect and maintain systems for water, air, sewage, storm drainage, and gas, including grease traps and hydraulic lifts
  • Cut, thread, bend, and assemble pipe using hand tools, torches, and pipe machines
  • Fabricate pipe supports and holding fixtures as needed
  • Perform standard pressure and leak tests to verify system integrity and compliance
  • Obtain certification for fire suppression systems and ensure adherence to NFPA codes and backflow prevention standards
  • Operate, clean, and maintain tools and specialized equipment safely
  • Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance and maintain accurate service records
  • Read and interpret building plans, technical drawings, work maps, and specifications
  • Apply plumbing codes, manufacturer requirements, and environmental protection standards during installations and repairs
  • Work in confined spaces and under adverse weather conditions on uneven terrain
  • Maintain professionalism in appearance, conduct, and communication across all tasks
  • All other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for extended periods
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, walking, standing or sitting for several hours; climbing in and out of a vehicle and stairs may also be required
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure for extended periods
Requirements
  • A valid state driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance
  • Access to a federal military installation requires a REAL ID‑compliant driver’s license, U.S. passport, or military ID, in accordance with the REAL ID Act
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access; background check and E‑Verify will be conducted
