Job summary

North Carolina State University seeks a Plumber II to install, repair, and maintain complex plumbing and piping systems across classrooms, labs, offices, and residence facilities on campus.

You will troubleshoot boilers, pumps, and related equipment, while applying knowledge of secondary electrical and HVAC-related systems. Strong safety practices and clear communication are essential to support campus infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or demonstrated competency.
  • Some positions may require special licenses or certification.
  • Experience in the trade areas may substitute education on a year-for-year basis.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, repair, and modify plumbing and piping systems.
  • Service domestic, lab, and acid waste drainage systems.
  • Perform pipefitting tasks, including cutting, threading, installing piping and fixtures.
  • Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance on plumbing and related systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair boilers, pumps, steam systems, and related equipment.
  • Apply working knowledge of electrical and HVAC-related systems where applicable.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety policies and procedures.
  • Identify and address safety hazards and use required PPE.
  • Communicate with supervisors, coworkers, and campus customers on work and timelines.
  • Climb ladders, access confined spaces, lift up to 60 lbs, and work in varied conditions.
