Job summary

Akicita Federal is hiring Plumbers to maintain and repair critical plumbing infrastructure supporting veteran healthcare facilities for the Central Alabama VA Healthcare System in Montgomery, AL. These roles directly support the daily operation of VA medical campuses, with a consistent Monday–Friday schedule (8:00 AM–4:30 PM) alongside a skilled trades team serving two VA campuses.

You will test joints, install valves, inspect and repair plumbing systems, and proactively address wear.

Qualifications

  • Experience performing plumbing work in a hospital or large medical facility.
  • Familiarity with healthcare facility maintenance standards or Joint Commission environment-of-care requirements.
  • Experience in VA or federal government facility settings preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Test joints, piping, and fixtures for leaks and pressure integrity across medical facility plumbing systems.
  • Install, repair, and replace valves, fittings, and piping components to maintain uninterrupted facility operations.
  • Inspect and test piping systems after repairs or installations to verify code compliance and functionality.
  • Disassemble, diagnose, and repair damaged pipe sections or fabricate replacement components as needed.
  • Repair and replace toilets, sinks, and other plumbing fixtures throughout active healthcare facilities.
  • Conduct routine inspections of piping, fittings, and connections to identify wear or defective parts proactively.
  • Operate hand and power tools common to the plumbing trade safely and in accordance with facility protocols.

These roles directly support the daily operation of VA medical campuses, ensuring safe and functional plumbing systems for veterans and clinical staff. You will work a consistent Monday–Friday schedule (8:00 AM–4:30 PM) alongside a skilled trades team serving two VA campuses.



  • Test joints, piping, and fixtures for leaks and pressure integrity across medical facility plumbing systems

  • Install, repair, and replace valves, fittings, and piping components to maintain uninterrupted facility operations

  • Inspect and test piping systems following repairs, alterations, or new installations to verify code compliance and functionality

  • Disassemble, diagnose, and repair damaged pipe sections or fabricate replacement components as needed

  • Repair and replace toilets, sinks, and other plumbing fixtures throughout active healthcare facilities

  • Conduct routine inspections of piping, fittings, and connections to identify and address wear or defective parts proactively

What sets candidates apart:


  • Prior experience performing plumbing work in a hospital, medical center, or other large institutional/commercial facility

  • Familiarity with healthcare facility maintenance standards or Joint Commission environment-of-care requirements

  • State plumbing license or journeyman certification

  • Experience working within a VA or other federal government facility

  • Ability to adapt quickly to shifting priorities across multiple campus locations
