District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose: Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operations of all plumbing systems in district facilities.
Qualifications:
- Education/Certification: High School Graduate or GED
- Valid Texas Driver's License
- Experience: At least 3 to 5 years in plumbing and related work
- Basic knowledge of plumbing codes and regulations
- Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques.
- Knowledge of plumbing codes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material.
- Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
- Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
- Practice good safety habits at all times in accordance to the District’s safety policy.
- Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
- Use and secure district equipment in accordance to established procedures.
- Maintain all equipment, tools, supplies, and school vehicle.
- Assist with the training of new personnel as needed.
- Inform supervisor of plumbing needs for proper purchasing of supplies, materials, and equipment.
- Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
- Assist with inspection, repair, and maintenance of sprinkler systems, waste water treatment plants and lift stations.
- Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that incorporate gas or water consumption.
- Maintain inventory and ensure that all district‑owned tools, equipment, supplies and materials are in safe operating condition.
- Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
- Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
- Receive and complete work orders.
- Respond to all emergency calls as needed.
- Attend safety meetings, training, and other related certification as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
- Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
- Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties.
- Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Equipment Used: Hand and power tools; pipe bender; propane torch; welding equipment; sewer rooter; and heavy equipment. Including forklift, trencher, and backhoe. Light truck or van.
Working Conditions
Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
- Ability to stand, walk, talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel, push/pull, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, reach with hands and arms and taste or smell (67 to 99% of the work day). Able to sit (0 to 33% of the work day).
- Occasionally (0 to 33% of the work day) lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 100lbs.
- Special vision requirements include: 20/20 (corrected), ability to identify and distinguish colors. Be able to adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus, judge distances and spatial relationships and observe an area peripherally.
- Work environment; exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, wet humid conditions, working near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation and work with some form of vibration (67 to 99% of the work day), work with explosives (0 to 33% of the work day).
- The typical noise level for the work environment is moderate noise.
- Hearing requirements include: ability to hear alarms on equipment, client calls and instruction from department staff.
Repetitive motion actions include: use of foot control, both feet (7+ hours of the work day), grasping simple/light objects (7+ hours of the work day), grasping firm/heavy objects (7+ hours of the work day).
