Job summary

Roma ISD Plant Maintenance, Texas, seeks an Assistant Plumber under general supervision to support district plumbing systems. You will assemble, install, maintain, and repair pipes, fittings, and fixtures to ensure safe operation of water, gas, and drainage systems across facilities.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, a Texas driver’s license, and ideally a Texas plumber’s license. Two years of plumbing experience is preferred.

Qualifications

Job Title: Assistant Plumber Exemption Status/Test: Nonexempt

Dept./School: Maintenance

Primary Purpose

Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Maintain and provide for the safe condition and operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Texas plumber’s license(preferred)

Clear and valid Texas driver’s license

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of plumbing repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques

Knowledge of plumbing codes

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material

Ability to perform mathematical calculations

Ability to diagnose and resolve problems

Experience:

2 years plumbing experience(preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties
Maintenance and Repair
  • Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test all pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures. Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs as indicated or according to work orders.
  • Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment including sinks, commodes, and water heaters. Install and repair kitchen equipment such as gas stoves and dishwashers.
  • Receive and complete work orders. Select material and hardware and make time and materials estimates. Maintain accurate records on material and labor used.
  • Inspect jobs upon completion and ensure areas are clean.
  • Work with building principals and supervisors to complete projects.
  • Respond to emergency calls as needed.
Safety
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials. Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment and ensure equipment is in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties including lifting and climbing. Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Lifting:Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment:Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel
