Job summary

Dripping Springs ISD is seeking a Licensed Plumber to maintain and repair district plumbing systems. The role involves installing pipes, reading blueprints, and responding to urgent repair needs across facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble, install, maintain, and pressure test pipes, fittings, and fixtures for heating, water, drainage, sprinkler, and gas systems in accordance with specifications and plumbing code.
  • Determine sources of plumbing malfunctions and complete repairs according to work orders.
  • Install and repair pipes, fittings, valves, fixtures, and plumbing system equipment, including sinks, commodes, water heaters, and water softeners.
  • Repair dishwashers and kitchen equipment that utilize gas or water systems.
  • Receive and complete assigned work orders.
  • Select materials and hardware and prepare time and material estimates.
  • Maintain accurate records of materials and labor used.
  • Maintain inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Inspect completed jobs and ensure work areas are clean.
  • Detect needed repairs on buildings, grounds, and equipment following established inspection procedures.
  • Perform other maintenance duties as required.
  • Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Under general supervision, maintain the flow and drainage of water, air, and other gases by assembling, installing, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures districtwide. Ensure the safe condition and proper operation of all plumbing systems in district facilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Texas driver’s license
  • Master or Journeyman Plumber license or actively working toward licensure

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of plumbing repair, maintenance, and installation techniques
  • Knowledge of applicable plumbing codes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and technical reference materials
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve plumbing issues

Experience:

  • Three years of experience in the plumbing field

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Maintenance and Repair

  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in safe operating condition.
  • Follow established safety procedures and techniques, including proper lifting and climbing practices.
  • Correct unsafe conditions and report conditions that cannot be immediately corrected.

Tools/Equipment Used: Hand and power tools; pipe bender; propane torch; welding equipment; sewer rooter; heavy equipment including forklift, trencher, and backhoe; light truck or van.
Posture: Frequent walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and reaching.
Motion: Frequent use of hands and arms; operation of tools and equipment; frequent driving.
Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying on a regular basis.
Environment: Work indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures; exposure to gas lines, fumes, toxic chemicals, and mechanical hazards; frequent districtwide travel.
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; respond effectively to urgent repair situations.
