Job summary

McCormick & Company, Incorporated seeks a PLP Manager at our Regional Distribution Center in Byhalia, MS. You will provide leadership for safety programs and model team leadership within a HPWS environment, ensuring safe practices and injury reduction.

You will drive compliance with federal/state regulations and develop robust safety training programs, working with Plant Leadership to improve safety performance and risk management across the facility.

Qualifications

  • BSc in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering.
  • 5+ years safety experience with demonstrated leadership.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and state safety regulations.
  • Strong communication and diplomacy to exchange sensitive information.
  • Experience coordinating with Plant Leadership Team and safety managers.

Responsibilities

  • Technical resource for the facility, ensuring safe practices, injury/illness prevention processes, regulatory compliance, and risk management for liability, Workers’ Compensation, and property claims (25%).
  • Compliance with Federal and State regulatory requirements, application of McCormick Health and Safety policies and procedures, case management, analysis of safety incidents and behaviors, and establishment of best practices for the plant/facility. Maintains safety and organizational health scorecard reporting (25%).
  • Oversees and audits all plant safety training activities, including monthly department and business unit safety audits. Develops meaningful safety measures for plant scorecard to drive performance improvements. Communicates and translates organizational safety objectives and practices into actionable solutions (15%).
  • Leads the resolution of Workers’ Compensation issues with emphasis on cost control measures and proper case management (10%).
  • Develops, implements, and refines divisional injury prevention processes for continuous improvement in injury frequency, compliance issues, and workers’ compensation (15%).
  • Leads and develops safety committee members and (if applicable) Safety ELR Technicians. Validates performance for the Safety Committee and all Injury/Incident review boards, leading action plans and root cause analysis (10%).

Position Overview

Responsibilities of this position include providing leadership for the Safety, Health and Safety Training Programs and setting the example of team leadership within an HPWS environment. This person is dedicated to ensuring safe practices, obtaining injury reduction, implementing proactive safety processes, increasing safety awareness, and developing and maintaining robust safety training programs.

Required Qualifications
  • BSc in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene, or Engineering
  • 5+ years safety experience with demonstrated leadership ability
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA and State safety regulations required
  • In-depth understanding of how own area integrates with other areas; comprehensive understanding of how multiple areas contribute to achieving business goals
  • Basic understanding of the industry sector and its impact on own function
  • Chemical sampling techniques, methods, and instrumentation; radiation analysis; measurement instrumentation
  • Strong communication and diplomacy skills required to exchange complex or sensitive information effectively
  • Interactions include Plant Leadership Team, Divisional Safety Manager, and all employees in the facility
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Dimension

Safety accountability for facilities ranging from 150–700 employees. Uses judgment based on analysis of information and requires attention to detail in making evaluative decisions. Expected to resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of technical expertise and review of precedents.

Conducts hazard analysis and behavior analysis. Directly impacts safety performance of the facility through leadership and involvement across teams. Safety is a foundational requirement for facility operation. Team performance is directly affected by individual performance, impacting all teams within the facility.
