McCormick & Company, Incorporated in Hunt Valley, MD, is seeking a full-time Health & Safety Coordinator to support the Health and Safety program and ensure OSHA compliance across R&D labs and offices.

The role reports to the Chief Science Officer, requires a Bachelor’s in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety, 5+ years of experience, strong communication, and the ability to drive safety KPIs. McCormick offers comprehensive benefits and a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety (Master’s preferred).
• 5+ years in Occupational Safety and Health with 1–2 years in a supervisory capacity.
• Strong communication and diplomacy with stakeholders; ability to influence.
• Experience with safety metrics, RCA, and implementation of corrective actions.

Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and evaluate OSHA-required safety programs and ensure compliance with legal standards and McCormick policies.
• Communicate progress toward safety goals with Leadership Team and ASC Safety Team weekly/bi-weekly.
• Conduct safety inspections of laboratories, pilot plants, and offices; create formal reports and abatement tracking.

Position Overview

Responsible for supporting the Health and Safety program for Hunt Valley R&D. Coordinate health and safety practices and processes in accordance with McCormick Plans and Policies. Assure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all McCormick safety standards. The role will require both day-to-day tasks and longer-term projects to be completed.Job tasks may vary based on risk and safety Key Performance Indicators within McCormick and Company, Inc

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for the development, implementation, and/or evaluation of multiple OSHA-required safety programs to ensure compliance with legal standards and McCormick Policies. These include but are not limited to Emergency Action Plan (EAP), Respiratory Protection, Fall Protection, Bloodborne Pathogens, Lockout/Tagout, Hazard Communication, and the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
• Communicate progress toward safety goals and KPIs with the Leadership Team and the Americas Supply Chain (ASC) Safety Team on a weekly and bi-weekly basis, respectively.
• Conduct safety inspections of multiple laboratories, pilot plants, and office spaces to include the creation of a formal report and abatement tracking system
• Ensure that accident/incident investigations are conducted in a timely manner to include collaboration with the Americas Supply Chain (ASC) Safety Team, root cause analysis (RCA), and the implementation of corrective actions
• Oversee outsourcing related to safety initiatives (e.g. consultation for industrial hygiene monitoring, fire protection, etc.)

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental/Occupational Health and Safety or related fields, Master’s Degree preferred
• Previous experience (5+ years) as an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist with 1-2 years serving in a management or supervisory capacity (preferred). This role is the internal subject matter expert for Occupational Safety and Health.
• Understanding of leading and lagging safety indicators and the use of Safety Data to drive safety initiatives and promote best practices. Computer skills - Microsoft OfficeSuite
• Requires strong communication and diplomacy skills with all internal and external stakeholders. Requires the ability to gain trust, confidence, and respect of all internal and external stakeholders. Establish strong working relationships and effective communication with supervisors and employees across the organization. Leadership skills with the ability to influence without a direct reporting structure. Ability to partner effectively with Human Resources and Facilities Management.
• Experience in ergonomics, fire protection, and industrial hygiene

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
