Job summary

United Pharma in the United States is seeking an experienced PLC Programmer / Automation Engineer to join a major life sciences automation project. You will develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC software for automated manufacturing systems using Structured Text and Beckhoff technology.

The role involves on-site commissioning and integration with electrical, instrumentation and process engineering teams, with hands-on programming, FAT/SAT support and on-going documentation to meet regulatory

Qualifications

• Experience as PLC Programmer, Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer.
• Hands-on Structured Text programming.
• Experience with Beckhoff / TwinCAT.
• Experience with PLC-based automated manufacturing or process equipment.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences or other regulated manufacturing environments.

PLC Programmer / Automation Engineer – Beckhoff / Structured Text

We are currently looking for experienced PLC Programmers / Automation Engineers to join a major automation project within the life sciences/pharmaceutical industry.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC software for automated manufacturing systems.
• Program PLCs using Structured Text (ST) and work with existing automation code and standards.
• Work with Beckhoff PLCs and automation technology, including TwinCAT where applicable.
• Support the commissioning, testing and start-up of automated equipment and production systems.
• Troubleshoot PLC, controls and automation issues during commissioning and site activities.
• Work closely with electrical, instrumentation, mechanical and process engineering teams.
• Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning and qualification activities.
• Review control system documentation, functional specifications, I/O lists and sequence descriptions.
• Assist with system integration and communication between PLCs, HMIs and other plant systems.
• Ensure automation software and documentation meet project and industry requirements.
• Provide on-site support during the Mexico and Nashville phases of the project.

Experience Required

• Strong experience as a PLC Programmer, Controls Engineer or Automation Engineer.
• Good hands-on programming experience with Structured Text.
• Experience with Beckhoff / TwinCAT is highly preferred.
• Experience with PLC-based automated manufacturing or process equipment.
• Previous experience within pharmaceutical, biotech, life sciences or other regulated manufacturing environments.
• Experience with commissioning and troubleshooting automation systems on site.
• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols and control system integration.
• Ability to read and understand electrical drawings, control narratives and automation documentation.
• Experience working through commissioning and start-up phases of projects.
