Job summary

Herco LLC in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking an Industrial Controls & Automation Engineer (PLC Programming) to design, program, and commission PLC/HMI/SCADA systems for automation within the die-cast sector of automotive manufacturing.

You will work with mechanical engineers and service technicians, develop from scratch, and ensure safety and regulatory compliance while traveling to customers up to 25%. This role offers hands-on opportunities in control panel design and networked automation systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum 2 years experience in industrial controls engineering or related field.
• Proven PLC programming and configuration experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of control systems including HMI/SCADA platforms.
• Familiarity with electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel design.
• Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory requirements for industrial automation.
• Willingness to travel to customers domestically and Canada up to 25%.
• Passport current or application within 30 days of hire; protective footwear required at employee expense.

Responsibilities

• Design, program, and commission PLC, HMI, or SCADA systems to control manufacturing equipment.
• Perform system integration and testing for shop/production environments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers to implement control systems.
• Develop and maintain electrical schematics, programming code, and manuals.
• Provide technical support and training to operators and maintenance personnel.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
