Piper Companies in Charlotte, NC is seeking a PLC Automation Engineer to join a growing engineering team supporting mission-critical industrial projects across data centers, pharma, and life sciences sectors. This role focuses on controls system design, automation development, and panel design for project execution.

You will help drive process improvements, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams while traveling up to 30% to client sites.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
2-5 years in industrial automation, controls engineering or electrical design.
Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical and/or EPLAN.
Extensive experience with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell hardware including panel design and wiring.
Willingness to travel ~30% to customer locations.

Responsibilities

Design and develop industrial control systems including electrical schematics and panel layouts.
Create and maintain engineering documentation using AutoCAD Electrical or EPLAN.
Configure and support Allen-Bradley PLC-based systems from design through commissioning.
Lead design efforts on large automation programs and mentor junior engineers.
Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and improve project delivery timelines.
