Job summary

ADT is seeking a Principal Engineer, Platform Systems to lead architectural efforts across cloud services, mobile, web, and devices. You will drive design standards, ADRs, and reference architectures while actively prototyping solutions and guiding cross‑team collaboration.

The role requires hands‑on expertise, strong communication, and the ability to mentor engineers in architectural practices within a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with multi-team systems.
• Hands-on technical lead or architect for cross-team/platform initiatives.
• Experience building and operating cloud-native/distributed systems (microservices, APIs, messaging, data stores).
• Experience producing architectural artifacts (design documents, ADRs, diagrams).
• Designing distributed systems and integration architectures (APIs, event-driven patterns).
• Hands-on credibility in at least one production stack with ability to prototype outside that stack.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture for strategic initiatives across cloud services, mobile, web, and device integrations.
• Create architectural artifacts including ADRs and reference architectures.
• Facilitate architecture reviews and drive alignment across teams.
• Prototype and evaluate new approaches with proof-of-concepts.
• Contribute to implementation when architectural guidance is required.
• Mentor engineers on design quality and architectural practices.
• Communicate complex technical information through RFCs/ADRs, diagrams, and reviews.
