Job summary

ADT Security Services seeks a Principal Engineer, Platform Systems to lead architectural design and implementation across cloud services, mobile, web, and device integrations. You will produce ADRs, reference architectures, and PoCs while guiding multiple teams through architectural reviews.

The role emphasizes hands‑on leadership, mentoring, and shaping best practices to scale architecture beyond a single engineer. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with cross‑team system design.
• Hands‑on technical lead or architect for platform initiatives, with design leadership.
• Experience building cloud‑native distributed systems (APIs, messaging, data stores).
• Experience producing architectural artifacts (design docs, ADRs, diagrams).
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to convey complex tech clearly.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture for strategic initiatives and cross‑team programs across cloud/mobile/web/firmware and partner integrations.
• Develop architectural artifacts, standards, ADRs, and reference architectures.
• Facilitate architecture reviews and align engineering teams on risks and decisions.
• Design, prototype, and evaluate new approaches; deliver PoCs and reference implementations.
• Contribute to implementation when architectural expertise is required to accelerate delivery.
• Partner with engineering leads, product, and programs to catch cross‑team requirements early.
• Promote reuse and maintainability across the platform; reduce architectural debt.
• Mentor engineers on design quality and architectural practices; provide feedback.
• Communicate complex technical information via RFCs/ADRs, diagrams, and code explanations.
• Operate in ambiguous spaces; lead through influence in a matrixed org.
