Job summary

Pearson is seeking a principal engineer to lead hands-on work modernizing its content platform. You will design target systems, migrate large content/data assets, craft reusable capabilities, and manage technical debt with a clear, costed plan.

You will work across teams, review critical designs, mentor engineers, and drive AI-enabled workflows while ensuring security, reliability, and scalable performance in a multi-service cloud environment.

Qualifications

• 12+ years building and operating production software.
• 4+ years at staff or principal level, or as technical lead across several teams or a large multi-service system.
• Led a re-platforming or legacy migration of a production system with active users and data.
• Full-stack depth in Java and Spring Boot, Node.js/TypeScript, and React with MongoDB and event-driven services.

Responsibilities

• Write production code on critical paths and review the hardest changes.
• Unblock hard technical problems that span systems, teams, or domains.
• Mentor engineers and improve engineering practices across teams.
• Define problem statements and drive architecture decisions with evidence-based tradeoffs.
• Evaluate frameworks, tools, and vendors and pilot modern practices like zero-downtime migrations.
