Job summary

Defense Unicorns is seeking a Platform Engineer to join a remote-enabled team supporting DoD engagements. You will own platform automation, collaborate with application teams, and guide junior engineers while working across IaC, security tooling, and cloud-native stacks.

The role requires Kubernetes expertise, cloud experience (GCP/AWS/Azure), and strong scripting in Python/Go/Ansible. Travel 10–25% and a DoD security clearance are expected.

Qualifications

• Platform Engineer with a focus on system architecture
• Cloud-native tech: Kubernetes, Google Cloud, Docker
• CI/CD, everything-as-code, security
• Proficiency in Python/Go/Ansible and shell basics
• YAML proficiency and container orchestration
• Agile in remote environments
• Secret Clearance and DoD 8570 IAT II certification
• DoD production Authority to Operate (ATO) experience
• DevSecOps/DevOps and CI/CD theory

Responsibilities

• Automate and build a runtime Production Environment and bridge between Applications and the Production Environment
• Validate solutions and implementations against tasks and business requirements
• Independently solve problems and develop small components
• Understand medium-level tasking and integrate components across teams
• Estimate time and effort for medium-sized tasks
• Demonstrate programming language proficiency and know when to use shell
• Own the bridge between Application Development and Production Environment
