Job summary

Octopus is a technology-driven energy company seeking a Platform Engineer II to help design and deliver core infrastructure, tooling, and services used by engineering teams. You’ll work with cloud infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines, observability, and developer experience to build reliable platforms.

You’ll collaborate with marketing, operations, and data teams, contribute to incident response, and own tasks while growing toward larger platform ownership.

Qualifications

• Solid communication skills and a collaborative approach.
• Hands-on experience with AWS or another major cloud provider.
• Familiarity with security best practices and automation tools.
• Experience contributing to the operation of production systems, ideally in a distributed or cloud environment.
• Docker and Kubernetes (we use Amazon EKS in production).
• Python or other scripting languages.
• Datadog or similar monitoring/logging tools.
• Messaging queues or event-driven systems (RabbitMQ).
• Terraform or similar infrastructure-as-code tools.
• Networking basics.
• PostgreSQL or another relational database.
• Linux system administration basics.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to building and improving platform services, writing code, reviewing changes, and supporting deployments
• Work alongside senior engineers to design and implement solutions that improve scalability, reliability, and developer experience
• Help maintain and operate core systems such as CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure, and monitoring
• Participate in incident response and retrospectives, contributing to learning and improvement
• Collaborate with other engineers to understand needs and translate them into practical platform solutions
• Take ownership of tasks and smaller projects, while developing towards owning larger areas of the platform
