Job summary

Fetch is seeking a Backend Engineer II to join the Data Platform team. You will architect and evolve the systems powering Fetch's data products, spanning pipelines, governed data access, and delivery infrastructure.

You’ll own problems end-to-end and drive technical solutions with ownership and reliability in mind. You will work across Product and engineering, lead cross-team initiatives, and mentor peers to raise the bar on quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with increasing ownership.
• Strong backend engineering background with reliable, scalable systems experience.
• Ability to independently scope ambiguous technical problems and define work to solve them.
• Experience owning systems used by multiple teams with focus on reliability.
• Track record of improving code quality, system health, or engineering practices.
• Experience contributing to or leading cross-team technical initiatives, including migrations or phased rollouts.
• Solid understanding of data infrastructure fundamentals — pipelines and governed data access.
• Strong code review instincts and rollout safety judgment.
• Mentorship experience with peer or junior engineers.
• Fluency in Kubernetes, event streaming, CI/CD, observability tooling, and AI-assisted development workflows.
• Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly and build alignment with stakeholders without formal authority.
• Comfortable operating in ambiguous, evolving environments with measurable outcomes.
