Job summary

Fetch is seeking a Backend Engineer II to join the Data Platform team. You will architect and evolve systems powering Fetch's data products—data pipelines, governed data access, delivery infrastructure, and partner-facing integrations. Expect ownership, high quality, and collaboration across engineering and product teams.

You’ll lead with technical capability, raise the bar on reliability, and mentor peers while shaping direction and delivering scalable solutions across multiple systems.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of professional software engineering experience with ownership of complex problems.
• Strong backend/ platform engineering background with scalable systems experience.
• Experience with data pipelines, integrations, or delivery infrastructure a plus.
• Ability to independently scope ambiguous technical problems and drive solutions.
• Experience owning systems used by multiple teams with reliability focus.
• Track record of improving code quality, system health, and engineering practices.
• Experience leading cross-team technical initiatives including migrations or rollouts.
• Fluency with modern software ecosystems (Kubernetes, event streaming, CI/CD, observability).
• Ability to communicate trade-offs clearly and build alignment with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Own technical problems and define projects addressing systemic issues.
• Improve reliability and quality through refactoring and proactive stability work.
• Lead multi-system initiatives spanning multiple projects or teams.
• Improve team efficiency by identifying new tools and processes.
• Shape technical direction and communicate strategy to stakeholders.
• Build trust across teams through collaboration with product and partner engineering colleagues.
• Mentor and grow junior engineers and provide constructive feedback.
