Job summary

Deluxe, a global leader in media and entertainment services, seeks a Principal Software Engineer in Burbank, CA. You will own the deep technical execution of platform foundations, ensuring service design, shared libraries, and identity systems meet scale and reliability goals.

This hands-on IC role requires shipping production code, defining patterns, and mentoring through architecture decisions with the Senior Director of Architecture. Hybrid work in the LA area is expected.

Qualifications

• 12+ years designing, building, and operating distributed production systems, incl. staff/principal scope.
• You have shipped production code within the past year and intend to keep doing so.
• Depth in software architecture: decomposition, API design/versioning, domain/data modeling, resilience patterns.

Responsibilities

• Own design of new services and decomposition of existing ones; define boundaries and data ownership.
• Set patterns for API design, versioning, error handling, idempotency, retries, concurrency, resilience, testing; demonstrate in code.
• Modernize legacy apps into well-factored services using strangler patterns and data migration strategies.
• Own technical design and hands-on implementation of shared capabilities on the Kubernetes/EKS platform.
• Design and maintain shared libraries and SDKs; manage versioning, releases, deprecation, and migrations.
• Establish standards for service communication, event-driven messaging, API contracts, and data access patterns; ship reference implementations.
• Lead architecture reviews (RFCs/ADRs) and maintain reference architectures and decision records.
