Job summary

OpenAI in San Francisco is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to help strategic partners design, build, evaluate, submit, launch, and maintain high‑utility plugins for ChatGPT and Codex. This is a hands‑on, partner‑facing role blending production engineering, architecture review, and developer experience to ship reliable integrations.

You will work with product, engineering, partnerships, legal, policy, design, and go‑to‑market teams to identify use cases, prototype implementations, run evaluations,

Qualifications

• 4–6 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Experience building and operating production APIs or developer platforms.
• Ability to prototype runnable integrations and write API specs.
• Strong written and verbal communication with external engineers and executives.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical partner journey for priority plugins from pitch to launch and maintenance.
• Identify strong plugin use cases and define user journeys to create meaningful value.
• Write production code, build prototypes, and create technical guidance and launch checklists.
• Debug API contracts, auth flows, observability, and data handling across OpenAI systems.
• Review partner architectures for API design, scopes, and long-term maintainability.
• Contribute fixes to the platform including APIs, SDKs, docs, and tooling.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, design, legal, policy, and go‑to‑market teams.
