Job summary

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in Lexington, KY seeks a Plastic Surgery Physician Assistant to provide advanced clinical care across inpatient, outpatient, and perioperative settings within the Plastic Surgery Section.

The PA operates as an independent licensed provider under supervision of a credentialed Plastic Surgeon, aligning with VA policies and privileging requirements to support evaluation, management, procedures, documentation, and care coordination.

Responsibilities

• Provides advanced clinical care in surgical, inpatient, outpatient, procedural, and perioperative settings within the Plastic Surgery Section
• Functions as an independent licensed provider under supervision of a credentialed Plastic Surgeon and in accordance with VA policies and privileging requirements
• Supports evaluation, management, procedural care, care coordination, documentation, performance improvement, education, and clinical operations for Plastic Surgery clinics and minor procedures
• Performs comprehensive evaluation of Plastic Surgery patients including history, physical examination, tests, and treatment plans
• Conducts pre-operative and post-operative assessments and communicates findings to supervising surgeons
• Triages urgent and routine consults and ensures timely follow-up per VA access standards
• Performs minor procedures such as wound care, suture removal, dressing changes, injections, and biopsies
• Assists Plastic Surgeons in clinic-based procedures and ensures compliance with surgical safety and documentation requirements
• Reviews imaging, pathology, and lab results, communicates abnormal findings promptly and participates in service meetings and training programs
• Maintains adherence to VA scope of practice, informed consent, infection prevention, equity of care, and professionalism
• Adheres to schedules and may include extended hours; telework: Ad-Hoc; not a virtual position
