National Fruit Product Co., Inc. is seeking a hands-on Plant Utilities Manager to maintain and repair boilers, refrigeration, compressed air, water, wastewater, HVAC, electrical systems, pumps, motors and piping.

This role is not office-only and requires active supervision of the utilities team while troubleshooting breakdowns to keep the plant operating safely and efficiently. The ideal candidate will own breakdowns, lead by example, and be willing to roll up their sleeves to ensure continuity

Qualifications

  • Five or more years of industrial utilities, facilities or maintenance experience, preferably in food manufacturing.
  • Reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication, problem solving.
  • Strong mechanical, electrical, plumbing, welding, refrigeration, and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of boilers, ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, water systems, wastewater treatment, HVAC, pumps, motors, and electrical controls.
  • Ability to read blueprints, equipment manuals, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or an associate degree preferred.
  • Licensure: valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains and repairs boilers, refrigeration, HVAC, electrical pumps, motors, and piping.
  • Responds quickly to equipment failures and plant emergencies.
  • Performs hands-on troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Supervises and trains utility and maintenance employees.
  • Schedules preventive maintenance and required inspections.
  • Coordinates repairs with production, sanitation, quality, and contractors.
  • Ensures safety, environmental, food-safety and company requirements.
  • Participates in after-hours and emergency call-ins.
  • Flexible with work hours, including nights, weekends, holidays and emergency call-ins.

Job description

We are seeking a hands-on Plant Utilities Manager to maintain and repair boilers, refrigeration, compressed air, water, wastewater, HVAC, electrical systems, pumps, motors and piping. This is not a office-only position. The manager will supervise the utilities team while actively troubleshooting breakdowns and working alongside employees until equipment is safely operating again. Ideal candidate takes ownership of breakdowns, leads by example and is willing to roll up their sleeves to keep plant operating safely and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains and repairs boilers, refrigeration, compressed air, water, wastewater, HVAC, electrical pumps, motors, and piping.
  • Responds quickly to equipment failures and plant emergencies.
  • Performs hands-on troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Supervises and train utility and maintenance employees.
  • Schedules preventive maintenance and required inspections.
  • Coordinaterepairs with production, sanitation, quality, and contractors.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, food-safety and company requirements
  • Participate in after-hours and emergency call in coverage.
  • Must be flexible with work hours, including night, weekends, holidays and emergency call-ins when necessary

  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Reading, writing, numeracy, oral communication, problem solving.

  • Working knowledge of boilers, ammonia refrigeration, compressed air, water systems, wastewater treatment, HVAC, pumps, motors, and electrical controls.
  • Ability and willingness to perform physical repairs (not to simply direct others).
  • Ability to read blueprints, equipment manuals, schematics, and electrical diagrams.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance and root-cause analysis.
  • Ability to prioritize work and make sound decisions during plant emergencies.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with management software preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or an associate degreeis preferred.
  • Relevant boiler, refrigeration, wastewater, electrical, or HVAC licenses and certifications arestrongly preferred.
Performance Expectations:
  • Prevent repeat failures by identifying and correcting the underlying cause.
  • Communicate clearly with plant leadership regarding breakdowns, repair status, risks and future needs.
Education and Experience:
  • Basic computer skills and experience with management software preferred.
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training or an associate degreeis preferred.
  • Relevant boiler, refrigeration, wastewater, electrical, or HVAC licenses and certifications arestrongly preferred.
  • Licensure: Incumbent must have a valid Driver’s License.
SQF Requirements/Responsibilities:
  • Support SQF requirements by maintaining food safety plan and food quality through completing job tasks and maintaining the work area in a sanitary manner to ensure compliance with FDA, USDA, and Kosher product requirements.
  • Report food safety problems to personnel with authority to initiate action and or Food Defense issues to the Food Safety and Quality Department.

Likewise, food safety is a key performance indicator. Understanding this, GMP and housekeeping procedures are to be followed as part of any job at our facility.

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be working around heat, cold, steam, water, chemicals, noise and operating machinery.The noise level in the work environment requires mandatory use of ear plugs. Personal Protective equipment is required.
