Job summary

Imerys in Chesapeake, VA seeks a Project Manager to lead planning, engineering, and execution of plant site projects, acting as the primary authority for successful completion and management of project staff.

Qualifications

  • 8–10 years of related technical experience, ideally in heavy industrial, fully automated process plants.

  • Plan, organize, and integrate engineering projects from studies to installation and commissioning.

  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Coordinate new equipment installation with plant production to minimize disruption.
  • Champion a zero lost-time safety culture, ensuring MSHA and environmental compliance.
  • Maintain accurate site drawings, specifications, and project reports.

Job description

Based at our manufacturing plant in Chesapeake, VA, as the Project Manager, you will lead the planning, engineering, and execution of plant site projects. You will act as the primary authority for ensuring projects are completed successfully, managing project employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Budget & Financial Control: Manage annual capital (CapEx) and miscellaneous projects with an approximate budget of $2–3 million, overseeing roughly 20 projects per year. Use SAP financial software to track expenditures and budgets monthly.
  • Plan, organize, and integrate engineering projects, from initial technical studies and design to final installation and commissioning.
  • Review all designs and schedules to ensure they meet engineering principles, company standards, local standards, and contract requirements.
  • Evaluate and approve design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Operations Coordination: Align new equipment installation schedules with active plant production operations to minimize disruption.
  • Safety & Compliance: Champion a "zero lost-time" safety culture, ensuring all work complies with MSHA regulations and environmental standards for air, water, and soil.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate site drawings, specifications, and project reports.
Requirements & Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
  • Experience: Minimum 8–10 years of related technical experience, ideally in heavy industrial, fully automated process plants.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced AutoCAD proficiency to manage and develop plant drawings (layouts, fabrication details, process flows, utilities).
  • Expertise in mathematical, statistical, and advanced engineering concepts (structural, hydraulics, mechanical, and electrical power distribution).
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Ability to interpret MSHA regulations, building codes (International Building/Fire/Mechanical), and Federal/State environmental permits.
  • Core Competencies: Strong leadership, report writing, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to define problems, analyze data, and draw actionable conclusions.
  • Physical Requirements: must be able to climb stairs (up to 9 floors), work at heights and in confined spaces, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Software: Proficiency in Google Workspace, AutoCad, and SAP.
  • Industry Expertise: Relevant Industries: Cement Production, Mining Processes.
  • Process Equipment: Conveyors: Airsides, Screw Auger, Bucket Elevator, Belt, Roller, Pneumatic, Scalping Screens, Crushers, Weigh Feeders, Ball Mills, Separator/Classifiers, Dust Collectors, Storage Silos, Packaging Systems.
Success Metrics
  • Maintaining strict financial control of the CapEx budget.
  • Ensuring 100% adherence to safety protocols and environmental regulations.
  • Completing projects on time and within scope.
  • Effectively motivating personnel and contractors to maintain high safety and quality.

The target base salary for this position is $125,000 - 150,000 per year, depending on education and experience, plus an annual performance bonus and a comprehensive rewards package.
