Job summary

DeKalb County Government seeks an Operator for water and wastewater facilities to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The role emphasizes hands-on operation, monitoring, testing, and reporting to support safe water delivery and wastewater services.

The ideal candidate will hold a Georgia Class III Water or Wastewater Operator license, a valid driver's license, and at least one year of facility experience. Training and ongoing certification are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; one year of experience in a water or wastewater treatment facility or equivalent; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
• Specific License or Certification Required: Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license; must possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia Class III Water or Wastewater Operator License.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor water and wastewater facilities to stay compliant with regulations.
• Perform sampling, testing, and laboratory analysis; calibrate equipment.
• Carry out repairs and maintenance; monitor equipment and chemical feeds.
• Collect potable water and wastewater samples; test pH, turbidity, chlorine, etc.
• Monitor SCADA for process changes and alarms.
• Prepare reports and maintain records; respond to calls and complaints.
• Maintain a safe, clean work environment per OSHA and county standards.
• Assist in training entry-level operators and participate in continuing education.
