Job summary

DeKalb County Government seeks a Water/Wastewater Treatment Operator to operate and monitor facilities in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You will perform routine sampling, laboratory analysis, equipment checks, and data entry while upholding safety standards.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, two years of facility operation experience, a valid Georgia driver’s license, and a State II Water/Wastewater Operator license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience in operation of a water or wastewater facility.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license; must possess and maintain a valid State of Georgia Class II Water or Wastewater Operator License.

Responsibilities

• Operates and monitors water treatment and wastewater facilities to maintain compliance with federal, state and local regulations; performs laboratory analysis; and checks equipment to ensure proper operation.
• Assists in regular and unscheduled repairs and maintenance on plant equipment; conducts weekly checks; rotates equipment; handles chlorine and other treatment equipment; monitors chemical feed equipment and solids processing equipment.
• Collects potable water and wastewater samples and performs laboratory analysis (pH, turbidity, chlorine, fluoride, dissolved oxygen, TSS/TVS, temperature); calibrates lab equipment.
• Monitors SCADA systems for changes affecting plant processes; notes pressure, pump faults, tank levels, turbidity, and filter function.
• Prepares reports, enters data, handles calls and customer inquiries; maintains safe/clean environment per OSHA and county standards.
