Job summary

Smart Sand Blair is seeking experienced Plant Operators for its Blair facility in Wisconsin. The role focuses on operating processing equipment, directing grounds crew, and maintaining safety and quality standards.

The position includes a $1.00 night shift differential and a pay range of $25.00–$30.00 per hour. Successful candidates will have a high school diploma (MSHA training preferred), experience with heavy equipment, and the ability to work varied shifts in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • MSHA training and experience are required.
  • Knowledge and skill to operate basic heavy equipment pieces.
  • Prior experience as a Plant Operator in both Wet and Dry plants.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Direct grounds crew to lubricate, shovel, sweep, and assist with lifting and moving objects.
  • Monitor material flow and instruments to ensure optimal processing conditions.
  • Set up or adjust machine controls to regulate material flow and pressure.
  • Train QA programs and test processes per Quality Management System.
  • Inspect samples to verify quality and identify impurities.
  • Maintain knowledge of operating small and heavy equipment.
  • Maintain logs of instrument readings and shift production.
  • Coordinate tasks using handheld radios.
  • Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Contribute to safety and environmental initiatives.
  • Follow plant-wide environmental and quality management systems.

We are a fully integrated sand supply and services company, offering complete sand, logistics, storage, and management solutions to our customers with our in-basin trans-loading terminals and our smartsystem storage capabilities. We own and operate premium frac sand mines and related processing facilities in Wisconsin and Illinois, which have access to three Class I rail lines, allowing us to deliver products substantially anywhere in the United States and Canada.

We are currently looking forexperienced Plant Operatorsto join our Production team at our Blair facility. The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00 with a $1.00 night shift differential.

This position involves the skilled operation of various processing equipment systems, as well as a variety of laboring activities. This includes but is not limited to, directing the grounds crew to lubricate, shovel, sweep, mechanically assist, lift, push, and pull various objectives.

The position will work under the supervision of the Production Supervisor however, will require taking direction from other Smart Sand leaders. This position is based primarily at our Blair facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Communicates processing instructions to Grounds Crew to: Install, maintain, or repair hoses, pumps, filters, or screens. Maintain processing equipment using hand tools. Inspect machines for hazards, operating efficiencies, malfunctions, wear, or leaks. Remove clogs, defects, or impurities from machines, tanks, conveyors, screens, or other processing equipment. Remove material from discharge outlets to prevent material buildup.
  • Monitors material flow or instruments (e.g. pressure gauges, set points, indicators, or meters) to ensure optimal processing conditions.
  • Sets up or adjusts machine controls to regulate conditions (e.g. material flow or pressure).
  • Trains the Quality Assurance Program and test processes as required by Quality Management System.
  • Examines samples visually or by hand to verify quality (e.g., clarity, quality, texture, or consistency).
  • Must have knowledge of operating small equipment including, but not limited to, skid steers, telehandlers, and man lifts.
  • Must have knowledge of heavy equipment including, but not limited to, haul trucks and loaders.
  • Maintains logs of instrument readings, test results, and shift production. Saves production information in a computer database.
  • Uses hand-held mobile radio units to coordinate tasks and resources.
  • Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or repairs to the supervisor.
  • Demonstrates constant commitment to safety, professional behavior, and environmental considerations.
  • Formulates, documents, and maintains quality assurance standards and ongoing quality control objectives.
  • Communicates with loader operators to direct flow/pace of sand feed.
  • Works cooperatively to comply with facility-wide environmental and quality management systems.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • MSHA training and experience are required.
  • Knowledge and skill to operate basic heavy equipment pieces.
  • Prior experience as a Plant Operator in both Wet and Dry plants.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
