Position Summary
This supervisory role manages maintenance and repair operations across the hospital system, including clinics and related structures. The Manager of Facility Services acts as the primary contact for maintenance issues and proactively identifies preventive maintenance needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Serve as project manager for facility projects, overseeing work orders, staff, contractors, budgets, and stakeholder notifications.
- Make technical decisions across trades such as carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, electronics, masonry, welding, painting, and mechanics; also oversee related functions and engineering tasks.
- Manage requisitions, purchases, and inventory controls for tools, parts, and supplies.
- Advise management on maintenance, replacement, and renovation of equipment and facilities, determining whether tasks are performed in-house or contracted out.
- Supervise and evaluate maintenance staff, ensuring timely completion of tasks, and providing training, counseling, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Plan daily and weekly work schedules, setting priorities and deadlines within organizational objectives.
- Participate in hiring processes, including screening and interviewing applicants.
- Act as fire marshal and oversee safety programs to manage fire hazards.
- Administer budgets for maintenance and repairs, develop estimates, and prioritize needs.
- Utilize tracking and monitoring databases to support job responsibilities.
Qualifications
- Associate's Degree in industrial maintenance technology, mechanical engineering, or related field.
- Building or mechanical trade licensure (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, construction) preferred.
- Minimum of five years of progressive experience in facility maintenance; equivalent education, experience, and training considered.
- Thorough knowledge of repair, maintenance, and construction techniques, tools, methods, and materials.
- Knowledge of building codes, environmental regulations, and other rules governing facility repair and maintenance.
- Working knowledge of JCAHO standards and facility regulations.
- Hospital engineering management/supervision experience preferred.
