Primary purpose of the position:


The Operations Manager leads both salaried and hourly teams within designated operating units and is a key member of the Houston Leadership Team. This role helps set the strategic direction of the plant to achieve business objectives.
The incumbent is responsible for delivering results across the department’s top five manufacturing objectives: safety and process safety management (PSM), environmental compliance, quality, cost, and production. This includes developing and executing strategic plans that drive efficient and reliable operations, support continuous improvement, and enable the implementation of new products and processes.
This position plays a central role in deploying operations excellence standards across the site and works closely with other departments and the Chemical division to meet production and business goals. The Operations Manager also oversees budget and cost control practices, supporting the month-end close and accrual processes.
This role is accountable for building team capability—ensuring hourly associates are trained and qualified, and that salaried staff have clear development and succession plans. The manager plays a leadership role in talent development, retention, and succession planning.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Drive continuous improvement in safety, PSM and environmental performance. Lead and develop the EHS culture for the Operations teams. Hold direct reports accountable for demonstrating EHS leadership. Support the Houston plant's OSHA VPP and ISO 14001 efforts. Ensure Stop, Think, & Act and other operations excellence principles are imbedded in daily processes.
  • Lead, manage, and coach the Operations teams to achieve Houston's business goals. Create and implement associate development plans to continuously improve the team's capabilities. Develop and implement succession plans to ensure viable candidates are ready for future vacancies.
  • Develop and implement production plans in accordance with the Chemical Operations S&OP process and the Business Teams' strategies. Communicate plans and priorities to the Operations teams to ensure alignment. Works closely with the Maintenance & Reliability function to develop and execute unit maintenance plans to ensure mechanical integrity of assets and improve unit reliability. Communicate plans/priorities to the Operations teams to ensure alignment.
  • Create and manage the fixed cost AOP. Work to identify & execute cost savings projects to drive overall cost improvement objectives. Submit expenditures and accruals to accounting for the monthly closing process.

Education and Certifications:

  • Required - BS-Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical preferred)
  • Desired - Master's Degree in Engineering or MBA

Experience:

15+ years of experience to include managing salary and hourly employees, financial responsibilities, production planning, and problem solving in a chemical plant environment

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional and diverse teams.
  • Strong communication, project management, and long-range planning skills.
  • Experience with continuous improvement tools and cost analysis.
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to align daily operations with broader business goals.
