Job summary

SMS group Inc. in Gary, IN seeks an Assistant Plant Manager to support the Plant Manager in safe, efficient and profitable operation. You will lead production, quality, maintenance coordination, and drive process improvement while engaging with customers and internal teams.

The role requires strong leadership, experience in manufacturing environments, and a focus on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement to meet business objectives.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, materials, metallurgical engineering or related discipline.
• Six to ten years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination.
• Demonstrated ability to lead improvement initiatives and solve operational problems.
• Strong knowledge of production operations, maintenance coordination, and safety practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to present to varied stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Assist Plant Manager in safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the facility.
• Provide leadership for production, quality, maintenance coordination, and process improvement.
• Lead or support continuous-improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, productivity.
• Maintain contact with customers and respond to technical inquiries and trials.
• Prepare reports, proposals, and coordinate with maintenance and engineering teams.
• Supervise assigned employees, drive accountability for safety and performance.
