Job summary

SMS group Inc. is seeking an Assistant Plant Manager to support the Plant Manager in the safe, efficient, and profitable operation of the Gary facility.

This role provides leadership for production, quality, maintenance coordination, process improvement, employee development, and customer technical support. You will work closely with operations, engineering, maintenance, quality, sales, and customers to achieve business objectives and ensure successful implementation of new processes, equipment,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical/industrial/manufacturing/metallurgical engineering from an accredited college or university, or six to ten years of related experience
• Experience in manufacturing, steelmaking, continuous casting, refractory products, or related technical environment
• Demonstrated supervisory/operations leadership experience and ability to lead improvement initiatives
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to present to diverse stakeholders

Responsibilities

• Support the Plant Manager in daily facility operations and assume leadership in their absence
• Promote a safe working environment and ensure compliance with policies and regulations
• Monitor production, quality, delivery, productivity, labor, and cost against objectives
• Lead or support continuous-improvement initiatives for safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability
• Coordinate with customers on technical inquiries and trial-related activities
• Develop action plans from customer business needs and track results
• Coordinate investigations into root causes of failures and quality concerns
• Assist with the implementation and standardization of improved procedures and equipment
• Prepare reports and proposals and assist with contract reviews
• Travel to customer facilities as required
