Quality Manager / Metallurgist

Manages and coordinates activities and operations of the quality department. Ensures the organization’s production operations, from raw materials to finished products, meet the quality, integrity, and efficiency standards set by the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Direct and oversee the Quality Department staff
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy
General Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement quality management systems (QMS) to ensure products and services meet the required quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Oversee the implementation, maintenance, and auditing of the ISO 9001 quality management system to ensure continuous compliance with international standards
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation, records, and procedures are maintained within all quality systems.
  • Analyze and improve metallurgical processes to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality in metal production.
  • Identify and resolve issues in metallurgical processes, such as equipment malfunction, material defects, or process inefficiencies.
  • Design experiments for materials to investigate potential improvements or remedies for product issues.
  • Provide technical support to production teams, ensuring smooth operation of metallurgical systems and adherence to production targets.
  • Monitor process parameters, collect data, and prepare reports on process performance, quality metrics, and production outcomes.
  • Evaluates current procedures, practices, and product specifications and develops and implements improvements as needed.
  • Oversees completion of appropriate documentation to support procedures.
  • Oversees preparation of technical reports and summaries based on data.
  • Conduct regular internal audits and inspections to ensure compliance with established quality procedures and standards.
  • Ensures laboratory equipment is maintained in accordance with established schedules and procedures
  • Identify areas for improvement within production and operational processes, recommending and implementing strategies to increase efficiency and quality
  • Works with sales from a strategic level to ensure that products meet quality, integrity, functionality, and other specifications and requirements.
  • Evaluate and manage suppliers to ensure that incoming materials and components meet quality standards
  • Investigate and address customer complaints and feedback, ensuring effective resolution and implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Direct quality control personnel to ensure the achievement of company objectives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Physical Demands
  • Ability to work additional hours as needed
  • Occasional overnight business travel
  • Maneuver around a shop floor
  • The ability to sit for extended periods, occasionally stand or walk short distances, reach for items on a desk, use hands and fingers to operate a keyboard and mouse, and have close visual acuity for computer work; essentially requiring light physical exertion with primary focus on sitting and using computer technology.
