Job summary

Johnson Controls Federal Systems in York, PA seeks a Plant Manufacturing Engineer to provide direct production support for Navy Systems, addressing non-conformances and ensuring smooth workflow. You will partner with Manufacturing, Welding, Quality, and Production leadership to drive corrective actions and sustain lean practices.

The role emphasizes hands-on problem solving at the source, rapid dispositioning, and cross-functional collaboration to maintain production efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-level engineering degree in manufacturing, industrial, mechanical or related field.
  • 3–5 years of hands-on manufacturing/production support or process engineering experience.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve issues at the source.
  • Experience investigating non-conformances (NCs), generating dispositions, and driving closure.
  • Ability to remove roadblocks across departments to maintain workflow.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, standard work, 5S, and CI methodologies.
  • Familiarity with root cause analysis and corrective action development.
  • Strong communication skills across engineering, quality, and production.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and production tools.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally and travel up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Review, investigate, disposition, and close each non-conformance to ensure uninterrupted production flow.
  • Go to the source of issues to gather facts, determine root cause, and implement immediate corrections.
  • Assist production, quality, and support teams to remove obstacles causing downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality to develop sustainable corrective actions for recurring issues.
  • Provide clear technical guidance to operators and supervisors on dispositions and next steps.
  • Ensure processes, procedures, and standard work are followed and gaps are closed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve stability, reduce waste, and enhance quality via lean principles.
  • Participate in 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Document NC investigations, dispositions, actions, and process updates for traceability.
  • Analyze NC trends to identify systemic problems and inform leadership on improvements.
  • Support changes to processes/equipment/workflows to improve reliability and throughput.
