Job summary

CMC, a Fortune 500® company, is seeking an operations leader who will oversee area activities, including accounting, shipping, receiving, and safety, to drive production and profitability. You will set financial and operational goals, coordinate budgets, and ensure compliance with policies while developing a strong safety culture.

The role emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and the ability to manage complex budgets and assets across multiple functions, with opportunities for growth and advancement

Qualifications

  • Must maintain safety and environmental concerns.
  • Experience in operations, marketing, or sales in a metal recycling facility is a strong plus.
  • Must be able to control budgeted labor and overtime costs and maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Understands and executes accounting policies, working capital, operating profit, and business strategies.
  • Extensive knowledge of all areas of operations.
  • Familiarity with material handling equipment and maintenance programs.
  • Collaborate and develop strong cross-department relationships to hit goals.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and speech.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in a professional manner toward achieving company performance goals with emphasis on safety, quality and all company standards.
  • Direct all activities of the Area including accounting, shipping, receiving, operations, safety and environmental.
  • Champion and ensure adherence to CMC’s Guiding Principles, Code of Conduct, Culture, and policies and procedures.
  • Establish operational goals, both financial and non-financial, with clear work plans and hold management staff accountable.
  • Plan budgets, company assets, labor forecasts and capital expenditures for short-term and long-range production.
  • Collaborate with different departments to ensure successful accomplishments of company goals.
  • Develop and lead a Safety Culture that is consistent with CMC standards.
  • Control inventory dollars and tons by meeting inventory turn standards set forth by the company.
  • Provide guidance and direction to staff including hiring, disciplinary action, staff development, goal formulation and performance review.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, minimizing the company’s exposure to adverse outcomes of complaints, litigation, audits and inspections.

What You'll Do

What You'll Need
  • Must be able to maintain and be familiar with safety and environmental concerns
  • Past successful experience in operations, marketing, sales in a metal recycling facility or other related industry a strong plus
  • Must be able to control budgeted labor and overtime costs; as well as, maintain fiscal responsibility for all departments' budgets
  • Understands and executes CMC accounting policies, RONA, Working Capital, Operating Profit, and Business strategies.
  • Extensive knowledge of all areas of operations
  • Preferred familiarity with material handling equipment and how to properly maintain (maintenance programs) and repair equipment
  • Must collaborate and develop strong relationships with people to ensure successful accomplishments of plant and regional goals
  • Ability to make sure all employees are trained and well prepared to carry out their daily tasks to ensure everyone's safety
  • Able to clearly communicate expectations, issues and feedback
  • Must be able to problem solve in all areas of plant
  • Proficiency with computer operating systems, to include Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate up, down, and across the business
Your Education
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor's Degree strongly preferred
