Job summary

Gotham Greens is seeking a Plant Manager for our Stevensburg, VA greenhouse to lead daily operations, drive safety, quality, and efficiency, and manage the site P&L. You will supervise a diverse operations team, mentor leaders, and implement LEAN improvements while upholding GMPs and food safety standards.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of plant operations experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; LEAN credentials preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems, material handling, trucking and logistics, and contract negotiations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and negotiating abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day plant operations and KPI targets.
  • Ensure food safety, quality, and employee safety across the site.
  • Lead safety trainings, audits, and site drills; enforce GMPs.
  • Manage cost controls, budgets, and P&L for the facility; present monthly financials.
  • Drive LEAN continuous improvement and cross-functional collaboration.

Job description

The RoleGotham Greens is seeking a passionate, driven, and hardworking Plant Manager to manage the day-to-day operations at our Stevensburg, VA greenhouse. This person will be a foundational leadership team member charged with operating a safe, clean, and efficient production operation. You will be knowledgeable in continuous improvement, be a true people leader, and an all-around proud operator. Gotham Greens is creating new ways to grow, fresh local produce, and sustainably revitalize the food system. This is a hands-on visible position requiring direct oversight of labor-management, production process, packaging, receiving, distribution, food safety and quality, and employee health and safety. This role reports to the Director of Operations.What You’ll DoFacility Leadership and ManagementManages day-to-day operations of plant performance. Responsible for:Inventory Control within agreed targetsMaintenance and upkeep of facility and equipment including CMMS, KPI and inventory managementKPI management and cascade to achieve targetsDistribution and Logistics resulting in customer service levelSanitationTrainingFood Safety & Quality AssuranceEmployee SafetyEmployee ManagementOrganization and Presentation of the FacilityAchieves over 98% customer fill rateOversee all Operations employees in the location, with direct management of departmental leaders. Provides hands-on mentorship and leadership for employees, including regular one-on-ones and formal/informal feedback.Drives a culture of learning and development for both self and their team.Leads by example and holds other leadership accountable for upholding company code of conduct, culture, and values.Any other duties assigned as required.Facility Financial OwnershipResponsible for location P&L - has in depth knowledge of all cost drivers in the region by monitoring and analyzing costs.Formulates sustainable strategies to maximize profits, communicates and cascades P&L goals and milestones to team members. Does not constrain the sales agenda to ensure both bottom and top line are in line with budgetResponsible for overall performance of the facility, employees, and product for the region.Monitors and analyzes costs, prepare and/or maintain budgets, and has direct oversight of the facility P&L.Presents site financials to Operations leadership on a monthly basis and is cognizant of P&L drivers.Employee, Food Safety & Quality ControlUpholds daily standards of production quality, food safety, and employee safety.Ensures regional compliance with external agency requirements, company procedures, product quality, employee safety, and food safety standards by ensuring the completion of location audits and trainings.Follow the facility GMPs and enforce them throughout the facilityExecute daily processes that enforce food safety protocols and maintain complianceSupport the efforts of the company to maintain our food safety system and quality programsOngoing involvement in key programs and verifying those critical operations (such cleaning, allergen handling, HACCP, etc.) are always managed by qualified, trained personnel.Drives and executes the Company Employee Safety Policy; conducts regular site safety committee meetings; Delivers safety trainings and leads site drills (fire/active shooter); Promotes a culture of continuous safetyProduction Efficiency & Continuous ImprovementContinually assesses goals and implements improvements based on data and company KPIs.Develops strategies and uses data to track performance month over month and analyze the health of the business and if inaccuracies are identified leads the review and improvement.Implements and upholds LEAN production strategies.Coordination & CommunicationRuns a daily meeting with location leadership to review KPIs, work direction, assess production needs, resolve problems, and set deadlinesHolds departmental leaders accountable for holding their own morning meetings to review production needs, proactive planning, and issue resolution.Works cross-functionally across multiple departments to achieve business objectivesWho You Are8+ years of relevant related experience in plant operations or manufacturing with proven success.Bachelors degree in a related field with strong preference for LEAN manufacturing credentials.Strong mentoring, coaching experience for a team with diverse levels of expertise.Entrepreneurial team player who can multitask and roll up their sleeves.Superior management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers.Adaptable leader that is comfortable in fluid, fast-paced start-ups or other rapid growth environments.Experience working with ERP systems, material handling suppliers, trucking and logistics, and contract negations.Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and negotiating abilities.Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills, high attention to detail; highly organized, and passionate commitment to the company vision.Appreciation of principles of sustainable agriculture and food and experience in specialty food, agriculture, natural and organic CPG a plus.Strong knowledge of MS Office.Adjusts to changing conditions and willingness to work off-shift, holidays, and weekends as needed.
