Job summary

Piston Automotive in Auburn Hills, MI is seeking a Plant Manager to lead our new GM-supporting facility. You will direct all plant operations including Production, Maintenance, Quality, HR, Finance, IT and other production activities, and manage staff performance with input from functional leaders.

The ideal candidate brings at least eight years in plant or general manufacturing management, Lean and Six Sigma expertise, and proven leadership in a union environment; strong planning and analytical

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of plant or general management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience managing in a union environment.
  • Eight years of experience leading salaried employees.
  • 8+ years of experience with Lean Manufacturing Principles, 5‑S, Kanban, Kaizen, Poka‑Yoke; Six Sigma; Root Cause Analysis.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
  • Preferred: Automotive industry experience; Six Sigma Black Belt certification; Lean Manufacturing certification.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and monitors both short- and long-term budgets to ensure the plant meets the site’s financial commitments.
  • Coordinates plant activities through planning with departmental managers to insure manufacturing objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost‑effective manner.
  • Implements cost‑effective systems of control over capital, operating expenditures, manpower, wages and salaries.
  • Manages capital asset maintenance.
  • Establishes and monitors overall plant performance for production and quality standards.
  • Controls and minimizes overtime, premium freight and repair expenses.
  • Maintains existing plant facilities and equipment; replaces or makes adjustments to plant facilities and equipment as necessary.
  • Provides leadership and training to accomplish company goals and objectives safely.
  • Implements and maintains preventative maintenance programs.
  • Incorporates shop‑floor organization and plant cleanliness among plant personnel.
  • Ensures all legal requirements, company safety procedures, and local and state health and safety regulations are met.

Piston Automotive is seeking a Plant Manager for our Auburn Hills, MI new facility launch. This facility will support General Motors. The Plant Manager is a critical thinker who will direct and manage all plant operations with overall responsibilities for Production, Maintenance, Quality, HR, Finance, IT and all other production-related activities within the site. This position manages all employees in the plant and is responsible for their performance management, with input from other functional leaders, on an annual basis. The successful candidate will have strong organizational and planning experience as well as excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
