Job summary

Schuff Steel is seeking an administrative support professional to assist Plant Management with personnel administration, onboarding, attendance tracking, and reporting. The role involves screening applicants, handling I-9 compliance, maintaining files, and coordinating pre‑employment steps.

You will also manage shipping duties, answer calls, and oversee office supplies in a busy industrial environment with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year related experience.
  • Strong MS Office skills; HR software familiarity preferred.
  • Knowledge of onboarding and I-9 processes a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Screens applications and assists with onboarding.
  • Performs customer service functions for shop employees relating to employment.
  • Creates and processes weekly personnel status changes.
  • Creates and distributes weekly reports.
  • Tracks attendance for production employees.
  • Coordinates all pre‑employment screening such as skill tests, drug tests, reference checks and employment verifications.
  • Completes Forms I‑9, verifies I‑9 documentation and maintains I‑9 files.
  • Creates and maintains employee personnel files.
  • Responsible for outbound USPS and FedEx shipping and tracking.
  • Acts as primary attendant to inbound phone calls.
  • Office supply inventory and ordering.

Key Performance Objectives
  • Screens applications and assists with the onboarding process.
  • Performs customer service functions for shop employees relating to employment.
  • Creates and processes weekly personnel status changes.
  • Creates and distributes weekly reports.
  • Tracks attendance for production employees.
  • Coordinates all pre‑employment screening such as skill tests, drug tests, reference checks and employment verifications.

Work Experience

Minimum of one (1) year of related experience.

Education / Training

High school diploma/general equivalency diploma (GED).

Specialized Knowledge, Certificates & Licenses

As outlined in the Core Competencies, an individual must have thorough knowledge and an advanced understanding of each competency outlined above in order to carry out the essential functions of this position.

Software & Technology

Position will require the frequent use of MS Windows 7 and/or MS Windows 10, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, and Blue Beam PDF Software. Experience working with KRONOS and/or Paycom is strongly preferred.

Work Environment

Position requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions. Working long days including evenings and weekends can be required for this position. This position is indoors and may sit for long periods of eight (8) hours or more per day. Occasionally this location may be outdoors for short periods of time. The work is in a highly industrial environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand and may need to lift and/or move up to 40 lbs.
