Job summary

Xcel Energy is offering an internship at the Sherco Generating Plant in Becker, MN. The program supports the Reliability Engineering department within the Performance Optimization Organization, giving hands-on chances to contribute to plant projects, reliability improvements, and technical analysis during the summer and potentially beyond based on performance.

You must be a current student in good standing, enrolled in an ABET-accredited program (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, or Chemical

Qualifications

• Current student, Sophomore or higher.
• Enrolled in an ABET accredited college or university and pursuing a degree in electrical, mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering.
• Able to work full-time during the summer (up to 40 hours a week)/ part time during the school year (up to 20 hours a week) and commuting to the designated work location in-person, per our hybrid work policy.

Responsibilities

• Responsibilities include working with the Engineering staff to support plant projects, both capital and ops/maintenance.
• Performance/efficiency analysis
• Emissions control
• Contract and project management
• Specifying new and replacement equipment
• Making process improvement recommendations
• Supporting technical requests from operations and maintenance
