Job summary

Martinez Steel LLC is seeking a Plant Engineer to oversee process management and engineering across our Fontana, Fresno, and Pittsburg shops. You will collaborate with plant managers to uphold safety standards, improve shop efficiency, and contribute to the company’s goals.

You will lead safety, quality control, and maintenance programs, analyze production data, troubleshoot equipment, and drive cost-saving improvements while coordinating cross-functional teams and planning workforce needs.

Qualifications

Job description

As the Plant Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing the process management and engineering of our plants, collaborating closely with plant managers. You will play a key role in maintaining safety standards, improving shop efficiency, and contributing to the company’s goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, implement, and manage safety, quality control (QC), and maintenance programs with a focus of ultimately bringing down total production costs.
  • Collaborate with plant managers to achieve production goals while ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Analyze weekly production data and propose and help implement improvements as necessary.
  • Troubleshoot and solve equipment issues, ensuring smooth operations across all plants.
  • Coordinate with field operations and detailing departments to maintain smooth project execution.
  • Manage the 6-week look-ahead schedule for specialty machines.
  • Control inventory of rebar, couplers, and all materials ensuring cost-effective shop management.
  • Assist in workforce planning, hiring, and development of shop staff.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws, minimizing risk related to complaints, litigation, audits, and inspections.
  • Participate in budget planning and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform weekly plant load balancing across three shops.
Essential Functions
  • Ensure plant operations are aligned with the company’s safety and quality standards.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor key operational systems, such as maintenance schedules, safety protocols, and quality control measures.
  • Maintain and improve production efficiency by analyzing data and proposing strategic changes.
  • Coordinate between various departments (Field Operations, Detailing, and Shop Teams) to ensure smooth project flow and production scheduling.
  • Provide direct leadership and guidance to plant teams, ensuring alignment with company goals and performance standards.
  • Perform regular assessments of equipment, troubleshoot issues, and recommend or execute improvements.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Fabrication and plant managers to develop staffing strategies, hiring plans, and budget forecasts.
  • Oversee shop inventory management to control costs and reduce waste.
  • Facilitate weekly load balancing across plants to optimize resource utilization.
  • Travel between the Fontana, Fresno, and Pittsburg shops to ensure consistency and efficiency in plant operations.
Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Engineering, or related field.

  • 3-5 years of experience in an engineering-related position (construction, industrial, or manufacturing).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with an ability to foster positive relationships across teams.
  • Experience in safety management, quality control, and plant maintenance.
  • Problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze and implement cost-saving measures.
