Job summary

Owens Corning Fort Smith Plant seeks an experienced Plant Controller to lead financial operations, budgeting, forecasting and reporting for the facility. The role partners with plant leadership to drive profitability and ensure SOX-compliant control environments.

You will oversee the monthly close, provide variance analysis, and coach teams on financial processes and internal controls while aligning with corporate objectives and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Plant Controller

Purpose of the Job: The Plant Controller provides financial leadership to a manufacturing facility(s) and will be responsible for maintaining a control environment that complies with the Company's internal control policies and Sarbanes Oxley. The Plant Controller will be a dynamic leader on the plant leadership team by contributing to all areas of plant management. The position is an important part of the financial talent pipeline and serves as a feeder for larger plants as well as corporate roles (i.e. Mfg Financial Leader, Segment Analyst, etc.).

The Plant Controller reports to the Fort Smith Plant Leader, with a strong dotted‑line reporting relationship to the Non‑Wovens Manufacturing Finance Leader.

Responsibilities:

Operations Planning

  • Participates in the development of operational objectives for the plant that are aligned to Corporate and Division strategic objectives.
  • Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure optimal facility financial results and shareholder value.

Financial and Operational Controls

  • Ensures the internal controls environment is operating effectively in all areas including data integrity, asset protection, segregation of duties, budgeting, financial reporting, information systems and adherence to corporate policies and governmental regulations (GAAP, SOX compliance, etc.).
  • Leads and coaches Fort Smith plant Natural Leadership Team (NLT) to ensure that accountability for internal controls is clear and procedures documented.
  • Leads the continuous sign off process and works with plant NLT to modify procedures for changes in policy.
  • Drives a robust representation letter process and provides assurance and visibility to the internal control environment.
  • Owns the representation as well as the financial return of plant assets.

Reporting and Analysis

  • Leads financial planning, budgeting and forecasting processes for Fort Smith
  • Prepares and delivers the plant financial forecasts and projections
  • Leads the plant's monthly closing process in conjunction with the Accounting team
  • Communicates results effectively to management and non-financial personnel
  • Provides in-depth analysis on variances to plan and forecast
  • Provides risk analysis for contingency planning

Improve Plant Profitability

  • Leads actions in line with achieving targets, mitigating risk and prioritizing resource needs
  • Leads proactive development of contingency plans, productivity improvement and corrective actions to ensure optimal financial results and shareholder value
  • Provides insightful and competitive analytics that anticipate change and drive decision making
  • Provides investment analysis
  • Assists in contract evaluation and negotiation
  • Educates plant personnel on key performance metrics

Cross-Functional Leadership and Team Contribution

  • Work across organization boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve plant, division or corporate objectives
  • Shares best practices across division, i.e. process improvements, financial modeling and procedural changes.
  • Aligns teams and resources in order to solve problems and drive results
  • Accountable to deliver functional leadership to team members at plant, segment and corporate level

Leading and Developing Talent

  • Creates an environment where talent is developed through effective performance management, talent evaluation systems and utilization of people
  • Acts as a resource to the non-financial leaders of the business providing education and training on the key principles of Finance
  • Grows and develops the strategic finance skill set of the Plant Analyst
  • Ensures succession plans are executed for focus roles

Plant Process and Administrative Leadership

  • Leads non-financial plant administrative processes such as information systems
  • Assigns resources and provides support and direction as needed

Leadership for the Oversight and Accountability of Plant Security

  • Ensures the delegation and successful completion of site security functions, including but not limited to: Managing/implementing OC Security Standards, quarterly assessment of security equipment, security capital project management, incident investigation coordination (contact for local authorities, communication with WHQ), talent management of security guards, site contact for security audits and visits, and monitor completion of WHQ required training.
Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting or relevant discipline a must
  • 5-7+ years of manufacturing finance experience
  • Eligible for work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future. This positions is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship.
  • Providing leadership to organizations within a manufacturing operation(s)-leading operations planning, savings, forecasting and investment analysis
  • Operating in a range of economic conditions, i.e. expansion, contraction, stable economic conditions-forecasting, scenario planning, risk analysis and contingency development
  • Delivering continuous improvement
  • Participating in the development of strategic plans
  • Negotiating, developing and evaluating customer and supplier contracts

Experience:

  • MBA, CMA, CPA preferred
  • Demonstrated high growth in previous experience
  • Attracting, developing and retaining outstanding talent-growing talent and succession planning.
  • Experience working in a start-up operation is preferred

  • Strong financial acumen with demonstrated analytical ability accompanied by knowledge of corporate finance and manufacturing costing principles-understands P&L and balance sheet dynamics
