Job summary

City of New Orleans Government is seeking a semiskilled maintenance worker to support the operation and upkeep of power and steam generating equipment, water filtration and pumping systems across city facilities, including the New Orleans Public Library locations.

The role requires basic hands-on maintenance experience and the ability to perform routine duties with common hand tools. Applicants may be tested in a qualifying review under City Civil Service rules.

Kind of Work

Semiskilled work in the maintenance and operation of power and steam generating equipment, water filtering, purifying, and pumping equipment; and related work as required. Employees in this position with the New Orleans Public Library will maintain HVAC systems throughout all 15 library locations.

Minimum Qualifications

• Minimum age limit: 18 years.*
• EITHER : One (1) year of full-time experience in the field of maintenance work requiring the use of common hand tools.
• OR : High school graduation or GED.

Kind of Examination

A qualifying review of training and experience to determine if the applicants meet the requirements of the position. This is a noncompetitive original entrance examination in accordance with Rule V, Section 8.1(d) of the City Civil Service Rules.
