Job summary

Collier County is seeking a Plans Examiner to review building plans and permits for compliance with state and local codes. You will interpret complex codes, review engineered drawings, and advise contractors, homeowners, and engineers on code requirements.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and 4 years of related experience, plus the ability to obtain a provisional certification within 120 days and a standard license within two years.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• At least 4 years of related experience in building or plan review.
• Fingerprinting and background checks are required.
• Provisional Plans Examiner certification must be obtained within 120 days.
• Standard license must be obtained within 2 years from start.
• State and county code knowledge is essential, with continuing education as required.

Responsibilities

• Review permits, applications, and engineered plans for compliance with Florida Building Codes.
• Assess site development plans and ensure ADA/federal requirements are met.
• Interrogate plans for constructability and perform value engineering checks.
• Provide technical assistance to contractors, homeowners, and engineers.
• Enter plan review data into the county system and communicate findings to applicants.
• Interacts with customers in person or by phone to resolve code-related questions.
