Job summary

Doña Ana County in Las Cruces, NM is seeking a Building Plans Examiner to perform technical review of residential, commercial, and industrial plans to ensure compliance with building codes, zoning, fire, and accessibility requirements. You will provide guidance to the public, contractors, and staff, prepare reports, and assist permit technicians and inspectors in the permitting and inspection process.

A high school diploma is required, with preferred associate's degree and relevant

Qualifications

• Five years of experience in building inspection, plan examination, code interpretation, and/or general building construction.
• High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's degree preferred.
• Must obtain NM CID Building inspector certification within 3 months of hire and ICC plan review certification within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Examine plans for compliance with building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes and zoning ordinances.
• Interpret, apply, and enforce codes and county standards.
• Review plans and specifications and provide recommendations to ensure compliance.
• Perform residential and commercial inspections as required to verify compliance with approved plans and codes.
• Maintain records and documents related to plan reviews, permits, and inspections.
