Job summary

Doña Ana County is seeking a Plans Examiner in Building- Community Development (Finance) to perform technical review of residential, commercial, and industrial plans, ensuring compliance with building, zoning, fire, and accessibility codes and county ordinances. You will prepare reports and provide guidance to the public and staff during permitting and inspection processes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent. Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Architecture, construction technology, or related field is preferred.
• Five (5) years of experience in building inspection, plan examination, code interpretation, and/or general building construction.
• In accordance with County policy. No substitution for required education.
• Valid driver's license. Must obtain NM CID Building inspector certification within 3 months of hire and ICC certifications within 1 year.

Responsibilities

• Plan review and code compliance of residential, commercial, and industrial plans; interpret and enforce codes and ordinances.
• Provide customer service and guidance to the public, contractors, and county staff regarding plans and regulations.
• Perform residential and commercial inspections to verify compliance with approved plans and codes.
• Maintain records and prepare reports related to plan reviews, inspections, and code compliance.
• Coordinate with county departments and external agencies involved in the development review process.
