Job summary

City of Mesquite, TX is seeking a Plans Examiner to review commercial and residential plans for compliance with city codes. The role includes advising the public and stakeholders on building and zoning requirements and guiding applicants through the permitting process.

Experience in plan examination and permit processing, plus ICC certification or coursework, is preferred. The position is a full-time on-site role with typical weekday hours.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 30 college credit hours in architecture, engineering, construction science or related field.
• ICC certification may substitute for college coursework.

Responsibilities

• Advise the public and professionals on building codes and plan review requirements.
• Assist customers at the Building Inspection counter, by phone and email.
• Process permits and applications in a timely manner per rules.
• Perform preliminary plan reviews for commercial and residential projects for code compliance.
• Coordinate revisions with Planning & Zoning to ensure ongoing compliance with zoning requirements.
• Prepare information and reports, including neighbor city comparisons.
