Job summary

City of Choctaw is seeking a Plans Examiner to review construction plans for compliance with building codes, zoning, accessibility, fire and life safety, and local ordinances. This role ensures safety and regulatory compliance before permit issuance and serves as the backup for the front counter.

Essential qualifications include ICC certification (B3 or R3) and a valid driver’s license. The position is full-time, non-exempt, with a salary of $54,008–$66,442 per year, depending on qualifications.

Qualifications

• ICC certification required or within 18 months of employment.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

• Review commercial and residential construction plans for code compliance.
• Evaluate plans against building codes, zoning, and ordinances.
• Coordinate plan reviews with Planning, Fire, Engineering, Public Works, and Environmental Health.
• Prepare correction notices and communicate revisions to applicants, architects, engineers, contractors, and owners.
• Provide code interpretations and technical assistance to the public and staff.
• Review revisions to ensure corrections are addressed.
• Maintain accurate records in the permitting system.
• Backup to front counter and assist as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.
