Job summary

The City of Richland is seeking a Plan Examiner to join the Development Services team. You will review commercial and residential building plans for code compliance, using your knowledge of the International Building Code and city standards.

The ideal candidate holds ICC certification or can obtain it within six months, has several years of plan examination or related experience, and will contribute to permitting processes while working under the Building Official.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED, and three years’ experience in plans examining, permitting, or building inspection.
  • At least one year experience in building construction.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.

The City is looking for a Plan Examiner to join our team in Development Services. If you have experience in commercial or residential building plan review and a strong working knowledge of the International Building Codes, this may be the opportunity you’re looking for!** Preference may be given to candidates holding an ICC Commercial Plans Examiner certification.**

This position is open until filled.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Performs intermediate skilled administrative support work reviewing building and construction plans for compliance, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Building Official (“supervisor”).

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Selection will be based on overall qualifications, skills testing (if applicable), and an interview process. The final candidate selected will be subject to a comprehensive background/reference check commensurate to the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Valid International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Plans Examiner or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED, and three (3) years’ experience in plans examining, permitting, or building inspection, including one (1) year experience in building construction, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience performing commercial plans reviews.
  • Valid International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Commercial Plans Examiner.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu.

0 months through 6 months / 13.33 hours per month

6 months through 9 years / 20.33 hours per month

10 years through 15 years / 22.33 hours per month

16 years through 20 years / 24.33 hours per month

Over 20 years / 26.33 hours per month
