Job summary

The City of New Smyrna Beach Development Services Department is seeking a Plans Examiner to review residential and commercial plans for code and ordinance compliance under the Chief Building Official.

This full-time, on-site role requires a high school diploma, construction experience across trades, and DBPR Plans Examiner licensure in Florida. Starting hourly rate ranges from $31.5846 to $36.5631 depending on qualifications and licenses held.

Qualifications

• Experience in construction across building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical trades, or combination thereof.
• Ability to read plans and understand code requirements.

About the Job!

The Plans Examiner works under the direction of the Chief Building Official in the examination of all residential and commercial plans for code and ordinance compliance.

What We're Looking For

• Highschool Diploma or equivalent;
• Experience in construction to include one of the following: building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical or experience in one or more of each of the following trades: electrical, building, mechanical, or plumbing construction work; or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Licenses Or Certifications

• Valid Florida Driver’s License.
• Must hold at least one (1) DBPR Standard Plans Examiner trade license or a provisional license in one trade.

Please Note: The starting hourly rate is dependent on years of experience and DBPR trade licenses held.
