The Facilities, Design and Construction Bureau within the Department of Environment Services (DES) is seeking a Planning Technician to manage County-wide service tickets for furniture orders, workstation accessories, lock repairs, key requests, and minor furniture repairs, reconfigurations, and replacements. This technician works closely with DES Space Planners in scheduling furniture installations, moving services, and ordering deliveries to complete interior service projects.
Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
- Processing invoices for furniture installations and ensuring furniture warranty repairs are completed;
- Scheduling small reconfigurations and taking small furniture orders such as chairs and sit/stand desks;
- Creating and maintaining electronic files of existing building layouts and furniture arrangements using AutoCAD drafting software, and creating furniture specifications for workspaces using Worksheet 2020;
- Preparing project scope and execution plans for interior service projects, including plans and installation drawings for workstations and supporting spaces (i.e. storage rooms, copy rooms, etc.);
- Communicating and collaborating with internal customers such as County staff to define and discuss space requirements;
- Coordinating the installation of furniture including maintaining the daily schedule of furniture installers and movers, and maintaining contact with County staff, maintenance, and outside contractors throughout the entirety of the process until completion;
- Performing inspections during the installation of furniture to ensure installation aligns with the design; and
- Ensuring workstation and furniture arrangement reconfigurations are compliant with County standards and safety requirements.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum
- Associate degree in Interior Design or a related field from an accredited institution; and
- Experience in commercial Interior Design.
Substitution: A Bachelor's degree in interior design may substitute for some experience.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design and experience in one or more of the following:
- Using AutoCAD to create workspace layouts;
- Designing system furniture setup and/or coordinating installation;
- Creating design specifications for workspace furniture using 2020 Worksheet or similar software; and/or
- Coordinating office moves.
Special Requirements
Please attach a resume to your application and a cover letter (or provide your response in the supplemental questionnaire) that describes your experience in the areas outlined in the minimum and desirable qualifications and including your experience using AutoCAD to create workspace layouts (if applicable).
Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid driver's license or be willing to use alternative means of transportation, and provide, or authorize the County to obtain a copy of their driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
Additional licensure or certification may be required based on assignment.
Work Hours: This is a full-time position (40 hrs/week). Flexible work schedule Monday through Friday between 7 am to 6 pm with telework opportunities. The core hours are between 8am-4pm. This is not a fully remote opportunity. Employee must be able to work outside regular working hours on occasions. Employees will be expected to be in the office at the discretion of the Supervisor.
